Community Engagement Opportunities and Patterns

Community Engagement Opportunities:

We have three partnerships for our Community Engagement Opportunities.

Backpacks for Boystown

“Our staff, patients, and families LOVE the bags made by the quilt guild. During EEG procedures, patients have electrodes placed on their head and these electrodes are then connected to a small box.
This box has to stay by the patient’s side throughout their entire stay or else the electrodes will risk being pulled off. For our young patients, this can be very challenging since they are constantly on the move! Having these bags makes this process so much easier for the patients and families. The patients are always so excited for their cool new “back pack” and wear the bag with the box inside while they move and play throughout the room. Thank you all SO much for making these procedures easier on our patients and families by adding this helpful resource and a spot of sunshine in their day!”

Kindness for Kennadi - Donate quilts to the NICU at Children's Nebraska

“Oneact of kindness can change a life forever. Your donation of blankets given in memory of your daughter Kennadi will touch more lives than you can imagine. Every day, miracles are happening at Children’s Hospital & Medical Center and it is because of the kindness and support of people like you that help those miracles along. Thank you again for caring about our young patients and for making an important difference in their lives. On behalf of the countless families and children who benefit from your generosity, we thank you for your kindness.”

Kindness for Kennadi is an initiative started in 2023 to provide comfort to children and families in the NICU at Children’s Hospital in Omaha. The initiative is in honor of the Schmidt Family’s late daughter, Kennadi Joelle. Quilts are donated to the hospital twice yearly in June and December. In 2023, fifty-three quilts were donated to Children's Hospital. Below is a pattern that can be used to create NICU quilts.

Other patterns can also be used and accepted. Quilts can be anywhere in size from 30x30 - 48x48. Minky and flannel fabrics can also be used. Quilts are collected at any time throughout the year and held for the next donation date. Quilt tops are also accepted and will be completed by committee members.

Girls Inc. Quilts

“Long term positive outcomes require long term positive supports. Protégé House provides a safe, encouraging home for young women. Our mission is to put young women solidly on the path to independence and self-sufficiency. Up to 16 women can reside at Protégé House at a time. Protégé House is open to all young women ages 19 to 28 who are able and willing to work and/or attend college, trade school, or other post-secondary training. Girls Inc. alumnae do receive priority when accepting applicants for the program. Girls who face barriers to independent living, such as girls aging out of foster care, sex trafficking or girls from some refugee populations, also receive weighted consideration.”

The Omaha Modern Quilt Guild has been making quilts for the women of Protégé House since its November 2018 opening.
