Quarterly Challenges

 2024

Fourth Quarter Challenge:

Make something "For Your Sewing Space" for our White Elephant Exchange at the December meeting. Wrap it or put it in a bag for the exchange.

Due: December meeting

Third Quarter Challenge:

Make a Community Engagement Quilt for Girls Inc. or Kindness for Kennadi from the donated fabric from our June meeting.

Due at the September meeting.

Below are some guidelines.

Girls Inc. Quilts

We are able to accept almost anything for Girls Inc. Quilts, from completed blocks to completed quilts.
Please use fabrics that are appropriate for young women - not novelty, children’s etc. fabrics. If you are going to donate a completed top or completed quilt, the recommended size is approximately 80x90 inches.
We can also take blocks - anything your creativity leads you towards and makes you happy. We will find a way to put them together into a quilt!

Here is a pattern for log cabin blocks if you’re looking for some direction:

We will be using different widths fabrics, 1.5 - 3 inches, no need to balance light/dark on each side (unless you decide) to give a modified/wonky looking log cabin block. Additionally, the center will be 1.5 - 2 inches (nothing is precise) square or rectangle. Similar to making a traditional log cabin block, start with a
center square/rectangle and another material strip – sew together and trim if needed. Keep sewing strips around all 4 sides until it measures at least 7 inches. It’s up to you to sew strips clockwise, counterclockwise, or random. Press your 7 inch or larger block and trim to 6 ½ inches.

Kindness for Kennadi Quilts

Kindness for Kennadi Quilts can be quilt tops or finished quilts. They can be any pattern you would like to make. The requested dimensions are anything between 30x30 to 48x48. The quilt does not have to be square. If you decide to finish the quilt, the backing can be minky, flannel or cotton.
