Psychedelic Baby Quilt Workshop with Katie Pedersen

Psychedelic Baby Quilt Workshop with Katie Pedersen of Sew Katie Did

April 5th was the long awaited visit from Katie Pederson of “Sew Katie Did” to the Omaha Modern Quilt Guild.  A workshop “Psychedelic Baby” was led by Katie with 22 participants.  Katie merges improvisational techniques with modern and traditional designs to create unique quilts.  By merging one construction method with multiple string piecing techniques, we simultaneously created large string blocks and mitered log cabin blocks that appear both chaotic and controlled.  Katie had multiple inspiring examples of how these quilt blocks can play together. Katie took time with each of us to look at all options for layout of our modern blocks for an unlimited design potential to make a finished original quilt. I can’t wait to see all the finished quilts!

We had such a wonderful meeting this month! We met on April 5th at the Westside Community Center! Our presentation speaker was Katie Pedersen from Sew Katie Did! She flew in from Seattle to teach a workshop on her Psychedelic Baby Quilt and then joined us at the meeting for a very informative slide show and truck show! It was such a blast to learn about her quilting process as well as see her beautiful works of art!

See you next month!

2nd Quarter Challenge - Monochromatic

2nd Quarter Challenge

Monochromatic

Due June 7th - Any size of completed quilt using only 1 color. This will be an exercise in using value, texture, shape and composition. You may add 1 neutral but it must be less than 10% of your entire quilt. If you are struggling with using different shades of the same color, using an ombre fabric is very helpful!

There will be a special category for Monochromatic Quilts in our Summer Exhibtion!!!

Examples of Neutral colors include beige, taupe, gray, cream, brown, black & white.  While neutral colors are not on the color wheel, they complement primary and secondary colors.

Here are two examples of a quilt using purples fabrics. The quilt on the left is not monochromatic because the white added is more than 10% of the quilt. The quilt on the right is monochromatic.
