May Block Lotto - Scrappy Strings HSTs

Here is a link to the online tutorial :

The only change from the tutorial will be to start with a 9" (or larger, depending how much "wiggle room" you want!) square of muslin (for the string block) and  9" (or larger) square of white/light gray/cream low volume fabric. After making the HSTs as instructed in the tutorial, trim to 8.5" (instead of 8" in the tutorial).

Think spring when picking the string block fabrics/colors...any bright and cheery prints will work! Making one string block = two HST blocks.

December Block Lotto - Patchwork Tree Block

For our December Block Lotto we will be doing the Patchwork Tree Block by Diary of a Quilter!

Fabrics -  Trees and background should be a mix of low volumes, greens and pinky reds. (see inspiration photo) & Trunk - shades of brown

  • Instructions have you make two blocks at a time!  You will get the reverse colorway.
  • Try different angles on top for different sized trees!

**We doubled the measurements for the Tree block so that we would have 8x10.5 unfinished block size.

    Changes are as follows:

(for 2 blocks as per the instructions for the tutorial link below)

       2 contrasting squares 9x9

2 squares  4x3 of one fabric

2 square 4x3 of second contrasting fabric

       2 trunks 2x3 of brown

unfinished block  will be 8.5x11 and trim to 8x10.5
